Mural at Monument Skate Park 

Call to Artists

The Town of Monument announces a Call for Artist to design and produce a mural at the Monument Skate Park.  The Mural will be painted on the concrete walls of the park.  Depending on entries, multiple artists may be selected to design murals on different walls.  This town envisions a mural that fits the park environment in positive tone, theme, color and content to reflect the family skate community. Content should be fun and colorful. Additionally, this will be a community project completed in October in correlation of the Cultural Office of the Pikes Peak Region's celebration of Arts Month.  ArtsMonth Hi Res

Scope of Work:  Mural will be painted on concrete walls of skate park.  Dimensions of walls are approximately 6' high and 20' long.  There are 2 straight walls.  Additionally, murals may be created on curved walls and ramps.  The Monument Skate Park is located on Beacon Lite Road, behind Serranos Coffee (625 Colorado Hwy 105, Monument, CO 80132)

Part 1: Design Proposals – The artist(s) selected to propose a mural design will be responsible for preparing a design and presenting the design for review and approval by the Town of Monument. The design shall include a mock-up of the proposed mural design with sketches of the mural details. 

Part 2: Mural Design and Construction- 

The artist(s) selected to design and construct the mural will be responsible for: 

  • Preparing the design and modifying the design per The Town of Monument 
  • Painting the mural; We envision this will be a community project completed in October in correlation of the Cultural Office of the Pikes Peak Region's celebration of Arts Month
  • Completing the mural within the specified timeline and within budget

The Town of Monument will be responsible for: 

  • Reviewing and approving the final design; 
  • Providing any access control (none is anticipated at this time);
  • Preparing and priming the walls; 
  • Providing all materials, including scaffolding or other equipment; 
  • Providing any necessary security during the mural construction; 
  • Graffiti coating the mural; 
  • Serving as a resource during project construction. 

Submittal Guidelines: 

1. One page cover sheet stating the following information, in the order listed: 

  • Title: “Skate Park Mural” 
  • Artist’s Name 
  • Artist’s Phone Number 
  • Artist’s Email Address 
  • Artist’s Mailing Address 
  • Artist’s website if applicable 

2. Mural Concept – Provide a proposed concept and theme for mural, with rough sketches. 

  • The art must reflect a theme that is suitable for public display at the Monument Skate Park site.  The art must be suitable for park visitors of all ages.
  • Use of profanity, nudity, drugs or alcohol, political statements, violence or graffiti-style elements in the art is prohibited.
  • Art should be colorful. No logos or advertisements. The artwork must be original in concept and not violate U.S. copyright laws.
