Citizens Academy

Purpose

The Monument Police Department offers a free, seven-week, Citizens Police Academy program that is open to all who live or work in the Tri-Lakes area. It is an opportunity for the citizens of the Tri-Lakes area to see firsthand what law enforcement is all about.

The Academy is designed to increase understanding between citizens and the police through education. It also gives the Police Officers an opportunity to interact positively with the community, a fundamental base of community policing.

Course Topics

During the 7 week academy, participants will learn about the following, plus much more:

  • Community policing
  • Computer forensics
  • Criminal law
  • How to shoot a variety of police weapons
  • Internal affairs
  • Patrol procedures
  • Tactical considerations
  • Use of force

Participate

Classes are held at the Monument Police Department at 645 Beacon Lite Road. If you are interested in attending stop by the Monument Police Department and pick up an application or fill out the application below and submit to the Monument Police Department.
