Planning Commission and Board of Adjustment 

Overview

The Planning Commission (PC) consists of seven members appointed by the Board of Trustees. The Planning Commission meets once a month to make recommendations on land use applications and land use related ordinances based on State and Local laws, zoning and municipal codes, before they are heard by the Board of Trustees. The Board of Adjustment (BOA) is a volunteer Board of five members appointed by the Board of Trustees, including one representative from the Board and one representative from the Planning Commission. The Board of Adjustment meets on an "as needed" basis to hear and rule on variances to the Town's Zoning Regulations.

All Development projects are reviewed by the Town of Monument Planning Department for all State and Local laws, zoning and municipal codes, regulations prior to any hearing. For more information about projects please email planning@tomgov.org. (See Development Projects for updates as well)

Agendas, Minutes, & Packets

In an attempt to better serve the residents of the Town of Monument, Documents on Demand has created a searching tool that will allow you to view agendas, minutes, packets and other documents of the various boards and commissions. Not only will you be able to look at the current meeting information (at least 7 days prior to the current meeting), but you will be able to search past meetings for specific meeting detail.

Meeting Schedule-

PC Meetings at the Monument Town Hall  645 Beacon Lite Road at 6:00 p.m. on the 2nd Wednesday of each month, unless canceled or a special meeting is needed. 

BOA Meetings at the Monument Town Hall 645 Beacon Lite Road at 6:00 p.m. Meetings will be announced on this page and posted in the Town's public kiosk located in the lobby of Town Hall.

PC or BOA Hearings/Meetings Online-Each meeting will have agenda and online streaming information available 7 days prior to meetings or hearings which are the 2nd Wednesday of each month. The public is welcome to attend.

  • In an effort to increase community engagement in our local government, the Town of Monument will be live streaming Planning Commission meetings. Please note that we may be unable to monitor online comments during the meeting. How to use Microsoft TEAMS.

  • Remote Participation:
    • By Telephone: Members of the public who wish to listen via cellular or land line phone can call: (719) 300-6099 
      • Use the access code of 273 906 042 047   for the November 9, 2022.  
    • Note that if you wish to speak during part of the meeting, you can "raise your hand" from your phone, by selecting *5 and then to unmute, you would select *6.
    • To join the event as an attendee Digitally Via Cell phone or computer:
      1. Go to the Monument virtual meeting site for viewing the meetings.     2. Register your information.
    • Please follow this link no less than 30 minutes before the event to register in advance. Registering in advance may require some basic information: Name, Address and Email. 
    • During a regular Planning Commission hearing with development projects, the Chairman opens the floor to public comment on a project, virtual attendees will have the option to "raise their hands" digitally and, when called upon, provide comment via connected audio devices. Once done speaking, please "lower your hand". (We respectfully ask that if there are multiple comments the same, only one person states them and limits it to three minutes). Work sessions may not have public comment but you are welcome to attend.

Please note that all projects will have their confirmed agendas posted to Documents on Demand at least 7 days or sooner, prior to the Planning Commission meetings which hear items prior to the Board of Trustees. Additionally, Public notices are also posted 15 days ahead of Planning Commission meetings on large metal signs next to the project lots, in the newspaper at the Colorado Springs Gazette as well as on postcards to those who live within 500 feet of a project.
