Wildfire Evacuation Drill Meeting

Saturday, October 2, 2021

Participants from Palmer Lake, Lake of the Rockies, Red Rocks Ranch, and Colorado Estates neighborhoods are encouraged to participate in a functional evacuation exercise with local first responders, NGOs, and Emergency Management partners. The morning of October 2nd, 2021, residents will receive a notification from El Paso-Teller County 911 Authority, and in some cases from an in-person first responder, instructing them to evacuate. Different neighborhoods will receive notifications at different times but all participants will eventually "evacuate" to Lewis-Palmer High School, for further information, refreshments, a Preparedness Fair. The Preparedness Fair will feature information booths from local emergency preparedness partners, demonstration Red Cross and Humane Society shelters for participants to tour, door prizes, lunch, and more!

We’re getting ready for wildfire season and we want you to join us! Residents in Palmer Lake, Lake of the Rockies, Red Rocks Ranch and Colorado Estates neighborhoods will have opportunity to see first-hand what it takes to safely evacuate their neighborhood if their home were threatened by wildfire.  After the drill, you’ll have the opportunity to speak with emergency responders and get information to help you prepare your family and home from wildfire season. Lunch will be provided!

The evacuation drill is Saturday, October 2, but we invite you to get more information and sign up during a community meeting Wednesday, September 15, Palmer Lake Elementary Gym, 115 Upper Glenway at 6:00 PM. If you can’t attend the meeting, you can still participate by registering online.

If you don’t live in the   Palmer Lake, Lake of the Rockies, Red Rocks Ranch or Colorado Estates neighborhoods, you can still take steps today to prepare for the inevitable. Register your phones so you can be alerted if an emergency threatens your neighborhood. If we can’t alert you, we can’t reach you! Register your phones today -- visit El Paso Teller 911 or Peak Alerts.
