PRESS RELEASE
Purse Snatching - Theft
On Thursday March 9, 2017, approximately 11:39 am, Officers with the Monument Police Department responded to the King Soopers store located at 1070 W.Baptist Rd on the report of a theft. On arrival they learned the following:
The victim of the theft (27-year-old female) cashed her paycheck at the customer service counter of King Soopers and put the money in an envelope. She then left the store with her two small children. As she did this the male suspect ran up from behind her and snatched the envelope from her hand, got into a waiting black Nissan Maxima, and left the scene. The license plates on the vehicle were not associated to a Nissan Maxima.
Upon reviewing the store surveillance footage, officers determined that the male suspect was actually standing behind the female in the customer service line watching the transaction between the victim and the store employee. The suspect then followed the victim out of the store and committed the crime.
The victim is a single mother of two small children (ages 3 and 5) and had recently moved to the Colorado Springs area from out of state. The loss of her pay check will be devastating to her finances.
The suspect is described as a white male with a thin build wearing jeans, black hoodie with Colorado State Flag logo on the front, and a black beanie. A picture of the suspect obtained from the store surveillance footage is shown below.
Anyone with information as to the identity of the suspect, or information about the incident, is asked to contact the Monument Police Department at (719) 481-3253.
