1. Does the Town of Monument handle animal related issues?

The Town of Monument does not take care of any domestic animal issues except for feces complaints. For problems with barking dogs, contact the Humane Society at 719-473-1741. For wild animal issues, contact the Department of Wildlife at 719-227-5200.

2. Why is the Town of Monument's phone number on my Comcast Bill?

The Town of Monument collects a franchise fee from Comcast. Any Comcast questions can be directed to Comcast at 719-491-8233 or 1-800-934-6489.

3. Which street lamps does the Town of Monument maintain?

The Town of Monument only maintains and replaces lights in the street lamps on Second Street. All other lights are maintained by Mountain View Electric.

4. Where can I recycle in Monument?

Peak Disposal and Recycling and Tri-Lakes Disposal both do recycling. Peak Disposal can be contacted at 719-481-2340 and Tri-Lakes Disposal can be contacted at 719-495-8652.

1. Are trolling motors allowed on Monument Lake?

Electric trolling motors are OK. However, we do not allow any other type of motors on the lake.

2. How large is the lake?

When the lake is full it is roughly 304.8 acre feet with a surface area of 30.7 acres.

3. Is swimming allowed within Monument Lake?

There is no swimming allowed in Monument Lake.

4. Is fishing allowed within Monument Lake?

Fishing is permitted with a valid Colorado fishing license.

5. What type of fish are in Monument Lake?

We have rainbow trout, cutthroat trout, cutbow trout (a hybrid of cutthroat and rainbow), catfish, perch, blue gill, pike and small mouth bass. There also might be large-mouth bass. For the stocking schedule, call the Department of Wildlife.

6. How much and often does the depth of the lake change?

The level of Monument Lake is checked daily by the Town's Water Department, the changes in depth are hardly noticeable and monitored very closely. On an average day, the depth of Monument lake fluctuates by a 100th-200th of a foot, the change is not fast or noticeable. 

On the extreme side, such as a very dry year, Monument Lake might fluctuate by a foot to a foot and a half over the summer.

1. Is water available in the parks?

There is a water spigot at Dirty Woman Creek Park on the side of the permanent restroom on the North side of the Park by the Pavilion.

 

2. Is electricity available at the parks?

There are electric outlets at both Limbach Park and Dirty Woman Creek Park. 

3. Are bounce houses allowed in the parks?

Yes, bounce houses are allowed, however the Town does not allow the use of stakes to secure them to the ground due to the damage these inflict on the irrigation system.

1. How do I go about using the Town's dumpster?

Please contact our Public Works Superintendent at 719-481-2436, make sure to leave a voicemail with your contact information and the date and time you would like to drop your things off. The Town does not accept hazardous waste, please contact El Paso County for this type of disposal.
You will need to provide your Town of Monument or Triview water bill.
